At the magic station you were given a card with ten travel destinations and saw how it reveals a number someone only thought of. The trick always works, on your parents, your teacher and the big brother who usually knows everything.
Two rules so that it still works the tenth time. Never reveal how a trick works, because an explained trick is just a riddle everybody knows. And never show the same trick twice in a row to the same person, because the second time they watch your hands instead of you.
Two more tricks that work without practice. Print, cut out, go. Seven pages, black and white is fine, all you need is scissors and ten minutes.
For each trick the booklet tells you what your audience sees, how it really works and how to perform it so that it lands. Each one comes with a cut-out sheet where everything is ready to go. You do not have to memorise anything and you do not need clever fingers: one trick does the maths for you, the other fools your audience’s eyes, and both work every time.
Start with the magic numbers. They hit hardest when someone has just said out loud that you cannot possibly know the number. Try every trick once in front of a mirror or your best friend before you bring it to the dinner table. After the tenth time you notice what really matters: not the secret, but how you talk, where you look and when you pause.
Someone thinks of a number between 1 and 63 and keeps it to themselves. You lay out six cards, ask the same question six times and then name the number. Behind it sits the same counting system computers use.
